Another way to check your wifi adapter is inxi -SMN. inxi is a neat app (already installed in a Debian live ISO) for system info of all sorts.

In most of these cases, it turns out your wifi adapter isn't supported by the Linux kernel (or supported only poorly). It's a common problem lately, with Realtek adapters especially (but not only those). If this turns out to be the issue, the solution will be to add support manually, e.g., by downloading a DKMS package. For this you will need internet access, either ethernet or a temporary connection through your cell phone.

Let's get the wifi adapter info, though, before discussing nitty-gritty of how to get it working.
