I install grub only in my boot partition...
and I don't install grub in the other linux variants, that I install on the disk.
in Linux variants like Deepin installing without asking, I sacrifice the time to make a first installation on usb stick and install the pair of Refracta tools (see sourceforge) refractasnapshot-base and refractainstaller-base (in that new good installation). Having the snapshot from your new installation, you can very fast reinstall it with the installer really completely AS YOU WANT! You are free... All mode are possible.
attention: I find the gui of both not better. with or without gui, the commando to invoque is the same!
