General Questions • firmware detection after installation with firmware=never

Hello,
the parameter firmware=free (instead of firmware=never) [..] does not exist?
According to the "Debian GNU Linux Installation Guide >> B.4. Contents of the preconfiguration file for bookworm" [1] [2], only the preseed parameter below is currently implemented:
  • hw-detect/firmware-lookup string never
(of which firmware=never is an alias).
[..] there is currently no way to install automatically free firmware only during installation on Debian 12 [..] ?
According to [1][2], you can use preseed parameters to ask the Debian installer not to install packages from "non-free-firmware" and/or "non-free" repositories at all. This way only firmwares from the "main" section of Debian repositories should be installed. I leave it to you to find the preseed parameters.

Hope this helps.
