Looking back on the fail error, it was always a memory error, as in it was out of memory. I do not know which of the two below settings fixed the grub boot issue from Debian to Mint, but I suspect it was the Above 4G Decoding, I changed it from Enable to Disable. I also changed the Shared Memory for the onboard graphics from 1024 to Auto.
The motherboard is an Asrock H670M Pro RS with firmware 14.01
