What I was thinking, probably naively, was to simply download the trixie-gnome hybrid live iso, burn it (or rsync it) to a usb, then boot from this live usb to see how competently your new mini-pc works with gnome. Thought this would be a quick-and-dirty process, never contemplated going through an installation. I apologize for not being clear.
Most of us would be turned away by the default gnome design and wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole. Myself included. However, there are valid reasons for me to stick with gnome; plus, the problems with default gnome can be easily ameliorated. But for personal use, most of us would be happy with whatever DE or WM that suits us the best.
Thanks again for taking time and effort to explore new territories. That's what keeps Debian chucking along.
