Hello, and thanks for the welcome. I followed the steps laid out in your post #25 and it solved the problem . I did try sunrat's suggestion but it didn't work. I think this will probably be down to mistyping on my part and I should probably have tried again but I became nervous and used sudo apt remove --purge to remove the versions one by one.
