Setting up a virtual machine (VM) is likely the most trouble-free approach in this scenario. Users can acquire the necessary skills at their own pace, seek assistance when needed, and gradually advance their understanding. Throw people in the deep to teach them to swim, and many of them will sink, and very few, if any, will have a good experience even if they make it. I would avoid the temptation of the newly saved of wiping the existing installation, as you will have to commit a lot of time and effort in providing technical support.

I firmly believe that individuals with limited technical expertise make excellent "customers". From personal experience, I configured Debian for my children during their younger years, and they encountered no issues whatsoever. Zero. However, if doing the same to a former Windows power user, the experience will probably differ significantly.

I don't like Windows and have abstained from using the operating system since 2006 (whenever possible!), and neither do I like Microsoft's anticompetitive business practices.[1, 2]

However, I also believe that we should maintain a professional tone. We should be able to have a professional discourse without resorting to derogatory terms, and doing so will reflect well on us all.
