Hi All,

I'm trying to get a HP Thunderbolt 4 docking station working on a HP laptop. The ultimate goal is to get two external monitors on display ports running, however I'm stuck at an early step. Thunderbolt connectivity does not seem to be working properly.

Hardware
Docking Station: https://www.hp.com/gb-en/shop/product.a ... BU&sel=ACC
Laptop: https://www.hp.com/gb-en/shop/product.a ... BU&sel=NTB

OS
Debian Bookworm

Instructions
The instructions that I'm following are at https://dockshub.com/thunderbolt-on-lin ... tributions

[y] Kernel module is installed
[y] User space tools are installed
[y] "journalctl" reports that USB devices are added when the dock is plugged in.
[ ] But "boltctl" list does not list any devices.

Other

Code:

uname -aLinux laptop 6.11.10+bpo-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.11.10-1~bpo12+1 (2024-12-19) x86_64 GNU/Linux
  • Open "Settings" -> Click "Thunderbolt" menu item -> Message "No Thunderbolt Support" "Thunderbolt security level could not be determined"
  • USB mouse and keyboard work when plugged into dock.
  • Multiple monitors running from the dock work perfectly under windows with the current BIOS settings.
Journalctl Output As Root When Dock Plugged In

Steps After Thunderbolt is Working
There are different ways that display port can operate over thunderbolt - this dock uses display link. This tunnels packets over the thunderbolt port from what I remember. There is a dedicated driver for Ubuntu as listed in this post from July 2023:

viewtopic.php?t=154855

I note that UEFI and secure boot need to be disabled, presumably because the kernel module is not signed.

Any help with getting this working would be appreciated.
Thanks
