Actually, the error is irrelevant as I've discovered the same error on Debian 12.6 but the same joystick does work with the same games, etc.
So the issue remains. My joystick works in Debian 12.6 but not in 12.8 or 12.9. I haven't tested 12.7 but I'm certain it stopped working with 12.8. It does at least confirm the joystick works in an older version of Debian.
This leaves me wondering if something changed in Debian 12.8 to do with joysticks. It's weird how it's recognised and lists all it's capabilities correctly but it simply does not respond to any program what-so-ever including evtest.
