I was convinced that pulseaudio was not on my system, but now I wonder. It seems strange that pulse is one of the options for my Audacity's playback device.

$ whereis pulseaudio

Code:

pulseaudio: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pulseaudio
$ sudo apt --dry-run purge pulseaudio

Code:

Reading package lists... DoneBuilding dependency tree... DoneReading state information... DoneThe following packages will be REMOVED: pulseaudio*0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.Purg pulseaudio
Should I apt purge pulseaudio ? The asterisk above is a little scary, but I think it would be safe. Looking in Synaptic, the only installed package that starts with "pulse" is pulseaudio-utils. If apt purge did remove it, I could reinstall.
