Subsequently ,I was able to locate and enable the Legacy mode.
Debian 12.7. is now working.
This computer had a bios set up different from what I was used to-
so it took some time to navigate the changes.
For what its worth- the following are the steps I used.
In the boot configuration section - enabled legacy mode and save.
This then highlights the legacy mode options -usb etc . USB mode
was selected.
proceed to save and exit.
Restart computer, press esc- which brings up a boot menu.
The menu will then show a legacy boot option.
Switch from current UEFI mode to legacy mode and proceed .
