According to a manufacturer [1], the "POR Recovery Count" is:
According to a different manufacturer [2]:A count of the number of sudden power off cases. If there is a sudden power off, the firmware must recover all of the mapping and user data during the next power on. This is a count of the number of times this has happened.
According to the hdparm manual page [3] this can be accomplished with the -y parameter:Under a normal system shutdown, the SSD receives a command (Standby Immediate Command) from the host ATA driver alerting the SSD that the system is shutting down and the SSD prepares for power removal. In a normal system shutdown, the SSD has plenty of time to flush its cache buffers and update its mapping tables.
This topic has been already discussed:Some questions:[..]
-y Force an IDE drive to immediately enter the low power consumption standby mode, usually causing it to spin down. The current power mode status can be checked using the -C option.
[..]
- What is the manufacturer and model of your SDD ?
- Is the external SSD already shipped with the external enclosure ? Or are you using a third part enclosure ?
- How do you shutdown the computer ?
- Do you unmount the external SSD before shutting down the computer ?
- Do you remove the external SSD without unmounting it ?
