I'm using Linux 6.7.12-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.7.12-1 (2024-04-24) x86_64 GNU/Linux and trying to get an Alfa AWUS036ACM wifi dongle working which has a MediaTek mt76x2u chipset. According to the product specifications the necessary drivers should be included in the kernel, however I'm frequently experiencing wifi drop outs and getting various outputs from dmesg. Most commonly occurring is, in context:repeating of course. While it doesn't take too long to re-authenticate it is long enough to time out what ever game I'm playing or video I'm watching. Paired with how frequently it's happening it is very annoying and renders online gaming impossible.
Second most common issue is in context: This can be fixed by removing the dongle and plugging it back.
The third most common issue is Unplugging the usb dongle crashes the usb port and while the system remains stable the port becomes unusable. It just goes through the usb numbers but never initialises any device I plug into that port within the same session. It stays like that even after logging out and back into the session. A reset fixes the problem and the USB port works again. I have a suspicion that the entire hub controller crashes because all my usb ports on top of the tower cease working.
And rarely I get. This is sometimes mixes with the vendor request failure. In context :While this can fix itself during the error I have no internet connection and what ever I'm doing usually times out. I don't know what triggers these errors. Sometimes I can watch youtube for hours or play online games for an entire afternoon, and sometimes I have to replug the dongle between every forum page. I can confirm that there is nothing wrong with the modem, I have flawless wifi connection on my android phone. Also I'd like to mention that I switched to Debian testing from stable because under Debian stable I had the vendor request failure and the tx urb failure but way more often and for some reason the connection was painfully slow but somehow I didn't get any of the authentication/deauthentication spam nor the page_pool errors. I have read a similar issue involving a PI device that was traced back to insufficient power supply cause, but I'm on pc and I have a 1000W corsair PSU so I don't think power is an issue. I've attached the full dmesg reports I saved during the crashes should I've missed some important detail.
