Indeed. I'd be curious what your storage is on both machines before deciding something is wrong. Having 2.5G nics is meaningless if your drives can only read / write at 70-120M per second or whatever the measurement is. Also if you aren't using at least Cat6 you won't get that speed. I'm thinking your Windows transfer > Debian just buffered a ton real quick then slowed down. But just a guess. I've seen my network push 200+M a second the first couple seconds then it drops down to a more realistic 80 or so. I don't transfer many very large files though so I am not remotely any type of authority on the subject.
